FINDING SOLUTIONS TO FOOD INSECURITY

PRAXIS conducted a community-based research project to investigate the opportunities for and barriers to food security.

PRAXIS worked closely with community residents who had first hand experience of poverty and food insecurity to give them a voice in policy-making processes.

PRAXIS produced a report that has been the basis for policy decisions and program development around food security issues.

Methodology:

PRAXIS worked with residents to interview service program administrators, facilitate town hall meetings with service users and service providers, and survey program staff and people in the community with limited access to resources.

coopshopperPRAXIS really took us out to the community. To find out what the true interests of neighbors were for the cafe and shared-use kitchen at Burns Street Square, PRAXIS organized and evaluated the results of a door-to-door, face-to-face, neighborhood outreach survey. This was a great example of building from the grass roots.
